Former Liverpool star Dietmar Hamann believes Jack Grealish needs to leave Manchester City to earn an England recall before the World Cup.
The 29-year-old has had a disappointing career with the Cityzens since his move from Aston Villa in 2021.
The £100 million signing has accumulated just 15 goals and 23 assists in 151 appearances in all competitions.
He has had some standout moments under manager Pep Guardiola, but he has performed below expectations overall.
Hamann has now advised Grealish to move on from the English champions with the World Cup coming up next year.
The ex-Liverpool midfielder highlighted that he needs to play regularly to convince manager Thomas Tuchel to pick him for the showpiece event.
Hamann said: “He’s been at the club for so long and he’s won everything. He had spells where he showed what he can do.
“If you ask me now, over the four or five years he’s been there, whether he’s been a success, I’d say no.
“Because there’s just too many and too long periods where he hardly featured, didn’t feature or didn’t really affect the game as much as he should have.
“I think he needs a change of scenery. Looking ahead to the World Cup, if he wants to go to the World Cup in 2026, you only get so many chances as a player.
“To do that, and I’m sure Thomas Tuchel would have told him, he probably has to go somewhere else and play regular first-team football.”
Grealish had a poor 2023/24 campaign with City. He tallied just six goal contributions in 36 games.
There has been no noticeable improvement this term. He has seven goal involvements, but four of those have come in the FA Cup against Salford City and Leyton Orient.
He has looked a shadow of himself in the Premier League. The ex-Villa star has played just 34 minutes in the top flight this year and has been a regular unused substitute.
Guardiola does not fancy him on the pitch anymore. The 29-year-old still has time to revive his career. He should join another top-half club this summer.
Fulham or Bournemouth would be perfect for him. Both teams like to play an attacking brand of football but still lack a marquee creator in the final third.
Grealish was undoubtedly one of the best playmakers at Villa, where he was the club captain. He could excel away from City without the pressure of expectations.
