West Ham United will throw their hat into the ring for Burnley’s James Trafford if they try to sign a goalkeeper this summer, the Guardian reports.
The 22-year-old shot-stopper has been a revelation for the Clarets this season, and his performances haven’t gone unnoticed.
While West Ham are considering submitting a bid for the goalkeeper, they will face serious competition from Premier League rivals Newcastle United.
The Magpies tried luring him to St James Park last summer but failed to get a move over the line.
Trafford has been in sensational form for Burnley this season, conceding just 11 goals in 37 Championship appearances.
His heroics between the sticks include an astonishing run of 12 consecutive clean sheets from mid-December to early March.
The former England youth international has kept 26 clean sheets, the best record of any goalkeeper in the English second tier.
West Ham have reportedly sent scouts to watch the talented keeper on several occasions.
The Hammers are looking for a long-term successor to veteran keeper Lukasz Fabianski, whose contract runs out this summer, although the club has an option to keep him for one more year.
Trafford came through the youth ranks at Manchester City, although the Premier League champions aren’t thought to be eyeing a summer reunion.
His reputation received another huge boost when Thomas Tuchel named him in his England squad for this month’s World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Latvia.
He joined Jordan Pickford, Dean Henderson and Aaron Ramsdale in the Three Lions squad.
West Ham are assessing their goalkeeping options ahead of next season.
The club’s primary target is Trafford, but they could turn their attention to Ramsdale if they miss out.
The Southampton goalkeeper is about to suffer the third relegation of his career but is seen as a viable option for West Ham.
