Manchester United should consider an approach for Southampton wonderkid Tyler Dibling following an unexpected setback this week.
The Red Devils are expected to make multiple signings in the summer, and a new right wing-back could be one of the top priorities.
Manager Ruben Amorim was keen on a reunion with Sporting CP wonderkid Geovany Quenda, but his plans have been scuppered.
Chelsea hijacked United’s pursuit on Thursday night. The Blues have agreed to sign the 17-year-old from Sporting next year, as per journalist Fabrizio Romano.
United have no time to ponder over the setback and must find a suitable alternative.
The club should grab the opportunity to land Dibling, who has made a big impression with the Saints in the Premier League this term.
Southampton have languished at the bottom of the table throughout the season, but Dibling has been relishing to watch with standout displays.
The youngster has six goal contributions this season. He has played as a right winger, attacking midfielder and striker for the south coast outfit.
The left-footed ace is also more than capable of operating at right wing-back.
Dibling has done plenty of defensive work for the Saints this campaign. He has tracked back effectively, averaging 4.3 duels won and two recoveries per outing.
He has also made one tackle on average and has picked up six yellow cards in the process. Dibling is also good going forward, with 1.5 dribbles per match.
The 19-year-old should only get better with more creative players around him. He would represent a better signing than Quenda as he is more familiar with the Premier League.
The Saints were reluctant to sanction his sale for less than £55 million in January. Some clubs were willing to pay £40m to acquire him.
The price could be negotiated with Southampton destined for relegation. United should target Dibling after missing out on Quenda.
