Chelsea the perfect opponents to spark Arsenal’s return to winning ways?

Arsenal’s title challenge may look to be over, but they still have plenty to play for, starting with a crucial London derby against Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium.

Manager Mikel Arteta refused to discuss the title race after last weekend’s 1-1 draw at Manchester United. His frustration was understandable.

Arsenal’s defensive wall was set too far back for Bruno Fernandes’ free kick, while David Raya’s positioning did little to prevent the goal.

Declan Rice’s late strike salvaged a point, but the Gunners extended their winless run to three league matches.

Despite their recent struggles, Arsenal remain in control of their top-four destiny. A top-two finish guarantees automatic qualification for the Champions League.

Arteta knows his team must respond. “We have to impose what we want and keep them far from their strengths,” he said ahead of Sunday’s game. “That’s going to be a key thing.”

Chelsea arrive at the Emirates in mixed form. They have won four matches in a row across all competitions, but their away record is concerning.

The Blues have not won on the road in the Premier League since December, losing their last three. They have also failed to beat Arsenal in their last six league meetings.

Arsenal have not lost consecutive home London derbies in the Premier League since moving to the Emirates in 2006.

They will be determined to avoid that unwanted record after West Ham United’s 1-0 win earlier this season.

The Gunners will hope for a return to form in attack. Their goal drought ended against Man United, but they have not scored more than once in any of their last four matches.

Bukayo Saka’s injury status remains unclear, but Arteta hinted that he is ‘getting closer’ to a return. His presence would be a significant boost.

The title may be out of reach, but Arsenal cannot afford to take their foot off the gas. A strong finish could set the tone for next year, and beating Chelsea would be the perfect way to get back on track.
