Bayern Munich have withdrawn the new contract offer they put on the table for Joshua Kimmich to sign.
According to Bild, Die Rekordmeister are unhappy that he has taken this long to put pen to paper on the new deal.
Kimmich is in the final year of his contract with the club, but it looks like he is ready to walk away on a free transfer.
The 30-year-old may be looking for a new challenge after ten years in Bavaria. The German international joined from RB Leipzig in 2015 and developed into one of the best players in Europe.
Kimmich is a leader in the Bayern camp, but the new offer reportedly contains a salary reduction, which made him apprehensive about signing.
Having pulled the new deal off the table, Kimmich must start considering his next move after leaving Bayern this summer.
Barcelona have been linked with a move for the Germany international, with manager Hansi Flick a massive fan.
Flick won the sextuple at Bayern with Kimmich in the engine room, and he will want to bring him to Catalonia.
Barcelona could use Kimmich at right-back as they have only centre-back Jules Kounde playing that position.
He can also replace Frenkie De Jong in the centre of the park. Barca have been trying to shift the Netherlands midfielder off their books for some time.
Liverpool are also interested, with the club expecting to lose Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid this summer.
He is the ideal replacement for the England international and coul take the starting berth while youngster Conor Bradley develops.
Real Madrid is another concrete option for the Bayern midfielder, although they remain focused on getting a deal for Alexander-Arnold over the line.
Kimmich’s decision in the coming months will be one of the biggest storylines of the summer transfer window.
With Bayern unwilling to improve their offer and top European clubs circling, he has plenty of options to consider.
