Midfielder Mason Mount has struggled to get his career going since joining Manchester United from Chelsea in 2023.
The England international has been plagued with injuries, which have prevented him from showing his true potential.
He has missed 46 games due to various injuries and has made 32 appearances across all competitions.
Mount was primed to flourish under manager Ruben Amorim as he can play as one of the number tens in the Portuguese’ preferred 3-4-2-1 formation.
However, his fitness issues have prevented him from playing. He has made just four appearances since the Portuguese arrived.
Despite his persistent fitness concerns, an Italian media outlet linked him with Serie A table-toppers Inter Milan.
However, journalist Fabrizio Romano downplayed the report linking the midfielder to Inter via his YouTube channel.
He said: “Inter are going in a different direction. They want to invest in younger players, not players with huge salaries.
“They are not going for players like Mount, not because of the skills, but because of the club’s strategy. There is nothing serious and concrete in the report.”
Romano also stated that United ‘want to see him back on the pitch and assess the situation in the summer’, indicating that the club have not decided on his future.
Man United would struggle to offload Mount
The Red Devils would find it difficult to offload the England international due to his poor injury history if they decide to sell him in the summer.
Mount’s salary is another roadblock to a possible departure from United. He is among the club’s highest-paid players, earning £250,000 weekly.
His departure would help the Mancunian giants’ summer plans, but the circumstances make a potential departure unlikely.
