Manchester United have announced plans to cut up to 200 jobs, with several positions set to be axed as the club continues its efforts to restructure and return to profitability.
Chief executive officer Omar Berrada defended the decision and framed it as part of a necessary transformation to make the club leaner, more agile and financially sustainable.
“We have a responsibility to put Manchester United in the strongest position to win across our men’s, women’s and academy teams,” Berrada said (via the official Man United website).
“Unfortunately, this means announcing further potential redundancies, and we deeply regret the impact on those affected colleagues.
“However, these hard choices are necessary to put the club back on a stable financial footing.”
The cost-cutting measures come at a time when United’s performances on the pitch have failed to inspire confidence.
Despite the changes at the executive level and promises of a renewed focus on success, new manager Ruben Amorim and his side continue to struggle in the Premier League.
