Manchester United have suffered a fresh injury concern ahead of the Premier League clash against Ipswich Town at Old Trafford on Wednesday evening.
The Red Devils went winless for the third-straight league game with a 2-2 draw against Everton at Goodison Park over the weekend. They came from two goals behind to share the spoils.
Manager Ruben Amorim will expect a better performance on Wednesday. The Portuguese could be without one of his most influential players.
Noussair Mazraoui has been almost ever-present in the starting XI for United, and he has proved a fantastic signing with his ability to play anywhere in the backline.
However, he is now doubtful to face the Tractor Boys after picking up a knee injury at Goodison.
Amorim initially planned to substitute Matthijs de Ligt for Leny Yoro on Saturday, but he had to change his plans after Mazraoui complained of discomfort in his knee, as per ESPN.
The 27-year-old, described as ‘tremendous‘ by former United manager Erik ten Hag, was assessed in the dressing room after the draw versus the Toffees.
He will undergo further tests on Monday to determine the exact nature of the injury sustained.
Mazraoui’s absence would be another big blow
United have already been hampered in the defensive department by untimely injuries. Lisandro Martinez is out for the rest of the season after undergoing knee surgery this month.
Luke Shaw and Jonny Evans are also on the sidelines. This has left the manager with limited options to pick from. Mazraoui’s absence would be another huge setback for the Portuguese.
Mazraoui is a perfect player for Amorim’s system, as he can operate on either flank. He has also impressed on the right and left side of the back three for the Red Devils.
If he is sidelined on Wednesday, Leny Yoro is the clear-cut candidate to be reinstated into the starting line-up alongside De Ligt and Harry Maguire in central defence.
Victor Lindelof is the other experienced centre-back available for selection, but Amorim has been reluctant to pick him. The Swede is poised to leave when his contract expires on June 30.
