Manchester United suffered their 12th defeat of the Premier League season after a 1-0 loss at Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
The Red Devils were ineffective in the final third. Spurs were also disappointing, but they won the game courtesy of James Maddison’s goal.
The result has put further pressure on manager Ruben Amorim, considering the club have lost eight of the last 12 league outings under him.
This has reportedly led to questions regarding his tactics. Some United stars feel Amorim should change his 3-4-3 system, which has not worked.
However, defender Leny Yoro has defended the manager.
He told Manutd.com: “I spoke with him when he came to the club, [and I thought] this is a very good coach who likes to speak with the players and really likes to have a good relationship with the players.
“He understands us a lot because he was a player before, so he knows a lot about what it’s like – the feelings you can have when you play or don’t play and when you have a bad game.
“He knows how to manage this, and I think this is the most important [thing].
“Tactically, he is top. We don’t have too much training to learn everything, but he tries to give us everything before the game to be 100 percent the best version of the team.
“We know he is with us, and we are with him, so it’s good.”
Amorim arrived at United with a huge reputation. The 40-year-old is regarded as one of the best young managers but has yet to get the best of the United squad.
Untimely injuries have partly contributed to the inconsistent results while the players have had to adapt to a 3-4-3 system, having featured in a 4-2-3-1 formation in the past.
Despite this, Amorim remains adamant that he won’t change his philosophy. The onus is on him to get the squad performing to a higher level before possible changes this summer.
United are currently 15th in the Premier League. They need to finish as high as possible to secure extra revenue. The club still have plenty to play for in the FA Cup and Europa League.
The Red Devils have the chance to defend their FA Cup crown. They are one of the favourites to win the Europa League. Amorim could yet end his debut season at United with a trophy.
