Danish youngster Chido Obi made his senior debut in Manchester United’s 1-0 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
The 17-year-old came on in second-half stoppage time, replacing veteran midfielder Casemiro. He has become the third youngest debutant for Man United in the Premier League.
Shola Shoretire and Angel Gomes are the only two players to have made their debuts for the club at a younger age.
Obi is also the second youngest player to feature in the league this term. Tottenham’s Mikey Moore is the only younger player to have played in the top flight.
Having come on close to the final whistle, the Denmark youth international did not record any touches.
United were hit with an injury crisis ahead of the fixture, which forced manager Ruben Amorim to name eight youngsters in the matchday squad.
Sekou Kone, Harry Amass, Elyh Harrison, Jack Fletcher, Tyler Fredrickson, Jack Moorhouse and Ayden Heaven were also in the matchday squad.
Amorim should give Obi a chance to impress after Diallo’s injury
Amad Diallo’s injury is a big blow for Man United. The Ivorian is United’s joint top-scorer and has been the club’s best player this season.
Amorim should now give Obi a chance to impress with the first team to cope with Diallo’s absence.
The young striker broke the Arsenal academy record last season and has continued to impress with United’s youngsters this term, scoring 12 goals across all competitions.
Obi’s talent should not be overlooked. He should now be allowed to show whether he is ready for first-team action.
Arsenal have given teenagers Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly ample game time this season. United must do the same with Obi.
