Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has confirmed that wonderkid Chido Obi-Martin is training with the first-team squad ahead of the Premier League game at Tottenham Hotspur.
The Red Devils have had a poor top-flight campaign, picking up just 29 points from 24 matches.
United will be aiming to return to winning ways at Tottenham on Sunday after a 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace in their last league outing.
Amorim has acknowledged there could be a few absentees due to illness and fitness issues.
The Portuguese tactician added that Obi-Martin is training with the team ahead of the trip to London to face Ange Postecoglou’s side this weekend.
He told reporters: “I don’t want to say names. We have to be careful about that.
“They are working with us – we had some problems this week – and we had some young players in training. He [Obi] is one of them.”
Obi joined the Red Devils from Arsenal’s academy last summer, and he has continued to make significant strides within the junior ranks at United. He has scored seven goals in his last seven games.
The teenager recently bagged a hat-trick against Chelsea in a 5-1 win in the FA Youth Cup and has now been rewarded with the chance to train under Amorim.
His presence in training hints that Rasmus Hojlund or Joshua Zirkzee could be unavailable. The youngster could make his debut off the bench if United are in a comfortable winning position on Sunday.
The Red Devils were on the wrong side of a heavy 3-0 league loss against Spurs at Old Trafford earlier this season. Tottenham also beat them 4-3 in the League Cup quarter-final in London.
United have the opportunity to avenge those defeats with a victory on Sunday. The club need to build momentum over the next few weeks.
