Sir Jim Ratcliffe believes his latest decision to cut more than 100 jobs at Manchester United is to prevent the club from ‘going bust’, according to the Guardian.
INEOS have laid off numerous workers to save the club from its financial mess since becoming United’s co-owners
The club’s precarious financial situation is evident in the infrastructure and the lack of transfer moves in the last January transfer window.
They have also ended Sir Alex Ferguson’s ambassadorial role, and some of United’s other ambassadors will have their salaries reduced.
Ratcliffe reportedly believes he has little choice other than to take tough measures after United lost £300 million over the past three years.
He believes the drastic decisions will make the club more financially stable and ‘highly competitive in two years’ time’.
INEOS’ job-cutting policies have made them unpopular among fans, and they must start justifying their actions with results on and off the pitch.
United are heading into one of the most crucial summer transfer windows in their history, and INEOS must be well-prepared.
Many of the current players are not good enough for the club. Ratcliffe must ensure that the squad’s weaknesses are addressed adequately to prepare the team for next season.
The poor state of Old Trafford also needs attention. Mouse droppings were recently discovered in the stadium, leading to the club being ‘slapped’ with a two-star hygiene rating.
While Ratcliffe’s ambition is to build a new stadium, the current one must be refurbished to match United’s status as one of the biggest teams in Europe.
If significant improvements are made in the coming months, INEOS will be able to justify their drastic financial decisions.
