Manchester United must beat Arsenal in the pursuit of RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko this summer.
The Red Devils have had a poor Premier League campaign, picking up just 29 points from 24 matches.
Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have scored a combined tally of five league goals.
Manager Ruben Amorim may want an upgrade in the striking department for next season.
BILD claims United are keen on signing Sesko. The £58 million valuation would be a ‘piece of cake’ to afford.
Arsenal are ‘particularly interested’ in the 21-year-old, but United must beat them in the race.
Sesko would be a huge statement signing for United
United were one of several clubs linked with the striker last summer, but he decided to stay at Leipzig by penning a new deal.
Sesko had a slow start to the campaign at the German club but has picked up form with 15 goals and four assists from 30 outings.
The striker has converted 26 percent of his shots into goals in the Bundesliga. This is a statistic which should please his suitors.
Hojlund and Zirkzee have failed to capitalise on clear-cut chances, and Sesko would be an upgrade on the duo with his finishing skills.
Aside from his goalscoring, he has a strong aerial presence and likes to press his opponents high.
He is also ‘extremely quick‘ on the counter-attack. United’s interim director of recruitment, Christopher Vivell, said this when he was Leipzig’s technical director.
Talks are underway over keeping Vivell permanently. The 38-year-old could play a big part in persuading Sesko to move to Old Trafford. Vivell initially brought him to Red Bull Salzburg as a 16-year-old.
The price tag and salary package should not concern United. The big question is whether they can convince the young marksman to choose them over Arsenal.
If United were to miss out on European football next term, the task could be more difficult, but the club’s stature and sporting project under Amorim could lure Sesko to Manchester.
His arrival would be a huge statement signing for United this summer.
