The Premier League has bigger issues to worry about than goal celebrations

The Premier League will reportedly consider sanctioning players if their goal celebrations could inflame opposition fans or players.

According to chief football officer Tony Scholes, the league would need to act if celebrations cross into ‘mockery or criticism’.

Yes, let’s suck the life out of football. What a great plan.

Premier League should focus on proper issues

We are in an era where people are easily offended. Snowflakes abound and all that.

As Australian comedian Steve Hughes once pointed out, being offended is subjective – nothing happens when you’re offended.

Ultimately, if anyone is being triggered by goal celebrations at football matches, they perhaps need to consider whether sport is for them.

The Premier League’s bid to sanitise football is unnecessary. They have far more significant issues to worry about, such as sorting out the poor officiating.

Scoring a goal is the best bit about football. Celebrations are part and parcel of that. It isn’t broken and doesn’t need fixing – the end.
