Arsenal must go all-out to sign Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak this summer after failing to land Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins.
The Gunners had a disappointing winter transfer window. They were tipped to make a couple of attacking additions after injuries to Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus.
Manager Mikel Arteta acknowledged that work was ongoing behind the scenes, but the club ended up without a single signing, much to the disappointment of many fans.
Aston Villa were prepared to sanction Ollie Watkins’ sale for around £60 million this winter, but Arsenal clearly had no plans to spend more than £40m on him due to his age.
The Gunners made a surprise late loan enquiry for AC Milan’s Alvaro Morata, but Galatasaray beat them to his signature. Arsenal did not have the same conviction as the Turkish club.
Arsenal are now expected to spend big on a marquee striker in the summer, and they must go all-out to land Isak from the Magpies with the transfer funds saved.
Isak would be a dream signing for Arsenal
The Sweden international was initially on the Gunners’ radar during his time at Real Sociedad.
Arsenal were reluctant to spend big on his glowing potential. The Magpies eventually capitalised to sign him for a club-record fee of £63m in 2022.
Isak has gone from strength to strength in the last few seasons. He has been exceptional this term, bagging 19 goals and five assists from 24 appearances for Newcastle.
He has a brilliant 27 percent shot-to-goal conversion rate in the Premier League. His arrival at Arsenal would be a huge boost as they create several big chances per game.
Isak also likes to drop into deeper attacking positions to link up play. He possesses fantastic dribbling skills and would ideally suit Arsenal.
He would be a dream signing for the Gunners, and they must show ambition to land him this summer.
The Telegraph claims Newcastle could demand £150m or more for his services, but Arsenal should still pursue a deal, having not spent a penny this winter.
The asking price could be much lower at around £100m if Newcastle miss out on Champions League football.
The Gunners must focus on securing Isak’s signature regardless of where the Magpies finish in the league this season.
