Mikel Arteta has urged his players to embrace the challenge ahead as Arsenal prepare for their League Cup semi-final second leg against Newcastle United tomorrow.
He has insisted that his side must show ‘courage and determination’ to reach the final.
Speaking ahead of the trip to St James’ Park, Arteta acknowledged Newcastle’s quality but stressed that Arsenal must impose themselves on the game.
“It is a great opportunity to get to Wembley, and we have to go there with full ambition,” Arteta said. “We know what Newcastle are capable of, but it is about what we do on the pitch.”
The Arsenal manager confirmed there were no new injury concerns following the victory over Manchester City, although Ben White remains unavailable, and Bukayo Saka’s return is still uncertain.
“We will see how he progresses, but we will not take any risks,” he added, highlighting the importance of managing player fitness carefully.
Reflecting on Arsenal’s need to be clinical in attack, the Spaniard called for a ruthless edge in front of goal.
“We have to take our chances,” said Arteta. “When you get to this stage of the competition, small details make the difference. It is about being efficient in both boxes.
The January transfer window was another key topic, with Arteta admitting that Arsenal had intended to strengthen the squad but could not find the right options.
“We were very clear on what we wanted to do, but in football, things do not always go as planned, he said. “What matters now is making the most of the squad we have, and I have full belief in these players.
Arsenal will head to St James’ Park knowing they need a strong performance to keep their hopes of lifting the League Cup alive, and Arteta is demanding nothing less than complete commitment from his players.
“We have to embrace it,” he said. “It is a big night, and we have to be at our best to get the job done.”
