Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies has signed a new deal with the club until 2030, according to The Athletic.
Die Rekordmeister tied down Davies for the next four-and-a-half years despite speculation that he would join Real Madrid this summer when his contract expires.
Los Blancos have been talking to Davies’ representatives but were eager to retain his services.
The Bayern hierarchy moved mountains to get the Canadian international to sign on the dotted line, refusing to make the same mistake they made with Toni Kroos.
Madrid’s full-back areas need a revamp. They wanted Davies and Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold to fill the gap but have now been dealt a massive blow in their pursuit of the former.
Bayern secured one of the best in the business and will use the summer transfer window to sharpen their frontline.
They lack the cutting edge which made them one of the most feared sides in football, and the focus will be on reinforcing the forward areas.
Leroy Sane has been a disappointment since joining the club, flattering to deceive but never showing the consistency required. He is expected to leave Bayern this summer as a free agent.
International teammate Serge Gnabry is also guilty of lacking consistency and could be on the chopping block in the next transfer window after another underwhelming season.
Many people expect Bayern and Madrid to battle for Bayer Leverkusen starlet Florian Wirtz this summer.
Bayern legend and executive Uli Hoeneß was asked what he wanted for the club’s 125th anniversary and named the German international maestro.
The club want him to form part of their new core alongside Jamal Musiala, Aleksandar Pavlovic, Michael Olise and Davies.
