Former Manchester City defender Nedum Onuoha believes Manchester United can win the Europa League this season.
United secured an automatic spot in the round of 16 on Thursday evening, beating FCSB 2-0 at the National Arena.
A goal apiece from full-back Diogo Dalot and midfielder Kobbie Mainoo gave United their second away victory in the competition this season.
They finished the league phase in third position, collecting 18 points from eight games. They are the only side yet to taste a defeat in the competition.
Ruben Amorim has had a great start in the Europa League, recording four consecutive victories since he became United’s manager.
United scored nine goals and conceded four in the matches played under Amorim in the competition.
Onuoha has been impressed with the Red Devils and believes they can win the tournament if they keep improving.
He told ESPN FC: “I think I agree that the changes did make the difference. Considering how much of a crisis they are having this season, they got the job done in Europe.
“And now they can rest while the other teams play in the elimination round. I think they look a good side.
“Look at the teams they could face and some of the teams in the top eight.
“If they continue to improve, they will be a very dangerous side, and maybe we were expecting a slip against FCSB.
“Still, it was a very comfortable performance in the end, especially given that it was away from home.”
United will face one of Galatasaray, AZ Alkmaar, Real Sociedad and FC Midtjylland in the round of 16 and should be able to beat any of them.
Winning the competition will help Man United secure a spot in the Champions League next season.
