Journalist Dharmesh Sheth has given more details on Manchester United’s interest in Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku.
United reportedly want to sign the French striker on a loan deal, while there have been suggestions they want to swap Alejandro Garnacho for him.
Man United are also considering a move for Bayern Munich striker Mathys Tel. Tel wants to leave the Bavarians before the transfer window closes.
United have struggled for goals in the Premier League this season and could benefit from the addition of a prolific forward.
However, they are financially constrained to sign players. They are not opposed to selling forwards Garnacho and Marcus Rashford to bolster their squad.
The duo are academy graduates and will offer ‘pure profit’ to the club, helping them comply with Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) if they sign a new player.
They are on the verge of completing a deal for Denmark starlet Patrick Dorgu and will have to dispose of players before stepping up interest in Nkunku or other targets.
Sheth has confirmed that the Red Devils will have a chance to sign Nkunku if they can offload players.
He told Sky Sports: “Manchester United have looked into the possibility of a deal for Christopher Nkunku, but there would only be a loan.
“They’ve got no chance of doing a permanent deal for Nkunku. It will cost them too much money.
“If United, and it’s a big ‘if’, did business with Chelsea for [Alejandro] Garnacho, they’ll already be talking then.
“And it would smooth the way for Nkunku to maybe make a move on loan to Old Trafford.
“But Nkunku is interested in Bayern Munich as well, and they maybe have a player in Mathys Tel that Chelsea could be interested in.”
While Chelsea are interested in signing Garnacho, they have yet to formalise their interest in him, which may impede United’s chances of signing Nkunku.
Nkunku is ready to leave Stamford Bridge this month. He has played second fiddle to Nicolas Jackson, starting just three Premier League games this term.
