Arsenal ended the league phase of the Champions League with a 2-1 away victory against Girona.
The Gunners had the worst possible start with a goalkeeping error from Neto. Arnaut Danjuma had an easy task of scoring into an empty net.
Arsenal were able to respond and earned a penalty, which Jorginho converted.
Ethan Nwaneri gave the Gunners the lead before the break. The 17-year-old unleashed a sensational curling effort from the edge of the box.
Arsenal should have won the game by a 3-1 scoreline, but Raheem Sterling squandered the opportunity to score from the penalty spot.
Speaking after the victory, manager Mikel Arteta was posed numerous questions. One of those was focused on David Raya, who was not part of the matchday squad.
The manager revealed that his first-choice goalkeeper sustained an injury. He will be assessed before the Premier League clash against Manchester City on Sunday.
Arteta said: “He certainly could not play – he’s injured and that’s it. Let’s see how it goes.”
Arsenal finished third in the league phase of the Champions League. They are now assured to qualify directly for the round of 16 without a knockout round play-off.
The Gunners will face one of AC Milan, Juventus, Feyenoord or PSV Eindhoven in the last 16.
Raya’s absence would be a big blow for the Gunners ahead of a must-win league game against City. They have to beat them to stay in the title race.
The Gunners are six points behind leaders Liverpool, who have a game in hand. They have no room to drop points and have to build a long winning streak to pile pressure.
Arteta did not specify the extent of the injury sustained by Raya. Hopefully, the 29-year-old has only picked up a minor knock. The manager could also be playing mind games.
