Coote drops another major clanger
It would be fair to say that former Premier League referee David Coote has made some questionable decisions in recent months.
Best known for allegedly taking cocaine, potentially match-fixing and making disparaging remarks about ex-Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, Coote now says he is gay.
His admission inevitably triggered a negative response on social media, with many people claiming this was a brazen attempt to garner sympathy following his antics last year.
That viewpoint may or may not have merit – only Coote will truly know the answer, and he’s not about to admit it does.
However, the reaction towards him may have been a little more positive had he chosen a different media outlet to share his big news.
In an industry where standards are at an all-time low, the Sun stands head and shoulders above the rest regarding their despicableness.
Their framing of the story undoubtedly does Coote no favours. Given his penchant for questionable decision-making, he probably can’t see that.
Ultimately, Coote’s sexuality has nothing to do with why he is no longer a Premier League referee. He lost his job because he behaved idiotically.
Sharing his story via the Sun demonstrates his stupidity is off the scale.
