Sacking Postecoglou would make little sense for Tottenham
Tottenham Hotspur’s 2-1 home defeat against Leicester City on Sunday was the latest low point in a dismal Premier League season.
They have now lost 13 of their 23 league games this term. However you flower it up, that is not good enough.
Manager Ange Postecoglou continues to be hammered for failing to change his attacking principles, and the criticism undoubtedly has some merit.
However, injuries have not helped Tottenham’s cause this season. When they get their big hitters back, things should improve.
It’s worth noting that while Tottenham have been hurtling down the Premier League, they are still in contention to win three cups.
Having sparked an improvement in the club’s fortunes last season, Postecoglou has enough credit in the bank to be allowed to see this campaign through to its conclusion.
Sacking him now would repeat an all-too-familiar cycle at Tottenham – one which they need to break if the club is to have any chance of long-term success.
Tottenham should have enough about them not to get dragged into the relegation battle between now and the end of the season.
If Postecoglou can guide them to success in at least one of the cup competitions, that would represent significant progress despite their struggles in the league.
