Man United should make a move form Lyon star Rayan Cherki

Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo are the two Manchester United players who have played well as the number 10s in manager Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 formation.

Alejandro Garnacho and Antony have struggled to play there, while Marcus Rashford has fallen out with Amorim.

Antony is close to joining Real Betis on loan, Garnacho is wanted by Napoli and Chelsea, and Rashford is also likely to leave Old Trafford this month.

United need to sign a player who is suitable to play as the attacking midfielder under Amorim. Olympique Lyonnais’ Rayan Cherki would be a perfect fit.

The 21-year-old has been one of Lyon’s best players since he broke into the first team. He is the youngest-ever goalscorer in the French club’s history.

He has been one of the best players in the Ligue 1 this season despite Lyon’s struggles, bagging three goals and three assists in 14 appearances.

Cherki is an elite chance creator. He is creating an average of 3.5 chances per 90 minutes this season. He has created 32 chances, the seventh-best tally in the French top flight.

The French youth international has three assists this term but ranks second for expected assists per game in the league.

United have not been great at creating chances this season, ranking 10th for expected goals. Cherki would help the club become a better attacking team.

Besides being a prolific chance creator, he is adept at passing, including long passes. He has an 84.3 percent passing accuracy.

Man United lack players who can deliver good crosses. Cherki crosses the ball well, averaging 1.53 successful crosses per game. He would be a good asset at set-pieces.

Cherki’s dribbling ability makes him a unique player in the attacking third. He completes 3.4 dribbles per game, the joint-third best dribble success rate in the Ligue 1.

The Lyon midfielder is not a liability defensively but can do better. He has won 85.7% of his tackles but has only been successful in 47.5% of his ground and 37.5% of his aerial duels.

Cherki has a clause in his contract that allows him to leave Lyon this month for at least £19 million.

He is also on a £58,546 per week salary, although he could demand more if he moves to Old Trafford. United should be able to afford him, and he would be a good signing.
