West Ham United are considering a shocking move for Galatasaray striker Michy Batshuayi as Graham Potter seeks an urgent solution to the club’s attacking injury woes.
According to Turkish news outlet Aksam, the Belgian forward is interested in returning to the Premier League, and the Hammers are exploring a potential six-month loan deal.
After a challenging start to the season under former manager Julen Lopetegui, West Ham are in the bottom half of the Premier League table.
With Graham Potter now in charge, the Hammers are hoping for a resurgence and have started as they mean to go on.
Potter made his Premier League debut with a crucial 3-2 win against Fulham, and fans will be hoping for more of the same when the Hammers host Crystal Palace this weekend.
West Ham did not lack firepower against Fulham, but Potter is keen to sign a striker to bolster his attacking options, and Batshuayi has emerged as a potential candidate.
The 31-year-old is reportedly preparing to leave Gala in what has been described as a ‘surprise’ transfer, but West Ham should bin the idea of signing Batshuayi before it becomes a serious thought.
A move for Batshuayi is ridiculous and shouldn’t be entertained
West Ham shouldn’t be entertaining the idea of bringing Batshuayi back to the Premier League, so let’s hope this is a rumour born out of sheer desperation for reinforcement.
Since leaving Chelsea on a permanent deal in 2021, Batshuayi has moved from Besiktas to Fenerbahce before landing at Gala on a free transfer.
The Belgian has started just one of his 17 Super Lig appearances this season.
While he has bagged five goals and two assists, it doesn’t change the fact that he’s far from what West Ham need at the moment.
West Ham must show more ambition than handing out a contract to a striker who couldn’t hack it in the Premier League and the Turkish league.
The January transfer window is difficult to navigate, but West Ham are better off targeting a younger striker to fill the void left by Antonio and Fullkrug’s absences.
