Graham Potter has a brilliant opportunity to restore his reputation at West Ham

Graham Potter is set to return to the dugout after 20 months out of the game.

The 49-year-old is poised to take charge as the new West Ham United manager following the sacking of Julen Lopetegui.

The Athletic claims Potter has agreed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the club.

Potter has been linked with several high-profile positions since being sacked by Chelsea, including Manchester United and England.

The West Ham job will not be easy as he has joined a club which has ambitions of competing in the upper half of the Premier League.

However, it will give him a big opportunity to restore his reputation after his disastrous Chelsea tenure.

He was hailed as one of the brightest young coaches in Europe after his solid work at Brighton & Hove Albion.

His reputation suffered a massive blow after a nightmare spell at Stamford Bridge. He lasted less than seven months in the job after recording 12 wins and 11 defeats in 31 matches.

He wasn’t given enough time to turn around the Blues’ fortunes, as is often the case at an elite European club.

However, West Ham could be a perfect place for him to rebuild his reputation.

The Hammers spent over £120 million to improve the quality of their squad last summer, and there is no dearth of talent in their ranks.

He will hope to be given time to improve the club’s fortunes. While no one expects him to be an overnight success, he needs to get West Ham heading in the right direction.
