Forest would be in the title mix if they beat Liverpool
Nottingham Forest’s 3-0 victory at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday evening moved them level on points with Arsenal in the Premier League.
The two sides are six points behind table-toppers Liverpool, but the complexion of the title race could change next Tuesday.
Forest are scheduled to face Liverpool at the City Ground, and a victory there would ramp up the debate about their title prospects.
Manager Nuno Espirito Santo has inevitably tried to keep a lid on expectations, but upsetting the odds is not beyond the realms of possibility for Forest.
They are the only team to beat Liverpool in the league this season. If they complete the double over them, title talk will naturally follow.
Given that they flirted with relegation last season, winning the title would undoubtedly be a massive story if Forest achieved the feat.
However, it would be difficult to describe it as the biggest fairytale in the history of the league. Let’s not forget that Forest are two-time European champions.
In terms of fairytales in the Premier League, Blackburn Rovers stand head and shoulders above the rest for their 1994/95 title success.
Regardless of that little sideshow, Forest have been a breath of fresh air this season. Most neutral fans would welcome a title win for the Midlands club.
