
West Ham United are in the market for a new striker and have several potential targets on their extensive shortlist.
The Hammers are keen to bolster their frontline after netting just 24 times in 20 Premier League games this season.
With one of the worst attacking records in the league, it’s unsurprising that the Hammers are languishing dangerously close to the relegation zone.
Julen Lopetegui’s side are 14th in the table, just seven points above the drop zone. West Ham’s atrocious performances this season have put Lopetegui on the cusp of losing his job.
The club were previously willing to stick with him until the end of the season, but have shifted their stance to avoid getting drawn into a relegation scuffle.
While they’re trying to sort out their managerial dilemma, West Ham are also making moves in the transfer market.
Injuries to stalwart Michail Antonio and talisman Jarrod Bowen have forced the club to explore striking options.
Brighton & Hove Albion’s Evan Ferguson is on their radar, but the Irish Times reports that Bournemouth are also keen on the striker.
West Ham must get to Ferguson first
Brighton have not put Ferguson on the market. The Seagulls reportedly have no intention of letting him leave the club this month.
However, there’s a general feeling that they’ll be open to a loan move to help the Republic of Ireland international rediscover his goalscoring touch.
Since returning from a lengthy lay-off, Ferguson has been a shadow of himself.
Once regarded as one of the best young strikers in the division, his development has stalled in recent months.
A change of scenery might do him a world of good, and West Ham must get there first as more Premier League clubs register interest.
Lopetegui isn’t a fan of Niclas Fullkrug. Even if he leaves, the German striker could be tempted by a mid-season exit just months after joining the club.
Despite his struggles, Ferguson is still tipped to achieve great things.
There’s no telling what he can achieve with regular first-team football under his belt, so a loan move for the talented youngster is a no-brainer for West Ham.
