Marcus Rashford has not played for Manchester United since the 2-1 win over Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League due to his fallout with manager Ruben Amorim.
He was not named in the matchday squad for four consecutive games but returned for the clash with Newcastle United.
However, he could only watch from the sidelines as United lost their third straight league home game.
He could miss tomorrow’s clash with Liverpool due to illness but may return for the FA Cup clash with Arsenal.
There have been rumours regarding the reason behind Amorim freezing out Rashford, but the truth has now been laid bare.
According to The Athletic, a conversation with Amorim at the start of December led to Rashford not being in action for five consecutive games.
Amorim heard that Rashford had been out in Manchester two days before the visit of Everton, which was against his instructions.
The Portuguese manager confronted the forward to explain his actions. Rashford’s explanation did not convince Amorim.
He was left out of the starting line-up against Arsenal and Nottingham Forest but started versus Viktoria Plzen.
The hammer fell on him as he was excluded from the squad for four consecutive games.
Besides spending the night out close to the Everton clash, he also reportedly displayed a lacklustre attitude at the final training session before the Manchester derby.
Amorim will not tolerate ill-discipline. He also axed Alejandro Garnacho from the squad for the Manchester derby due to dissent.
The 39-year-old wants to instil discipline into United’s squad, and Rashford could be the first victim.
The club’s decision to give him full autonomy over Rashford’s future has strengthened his authority over the squad.
There have always been questions surrounding Rashford’s attitude, having had disciplinary issues with previous managers.
United are ready to move him on to make way for new additions to the squad.
