Manchester City and Eintracht Frankfurt have yet to open a dialogue for Omar Marmoush’s rumoured switch to the Etihad Stadium.
According to journalist Florian Plettenberg, the Bundesliga giants haven’t received an offer from the perennial Premier League champions.
Marmoush, albeit heavily linked with a mega-money move to England, has refused to submit a transfer request.
Necessary signing
City’s rivals Manchester United had previously emerged as potential suitors for the 25-year-old forward.
However, City have jumped at the front of the queue amid rumours Jack Grealish could join Tottenham Hotspur or Newcastle United.
Grealish’s torrid time at the Etihad Stadium could soon be over. Even if he stays, goals aren’t part of the 29-year-old’s arsenal.
The same goes for other Guardiola’s forwards, except for Erling Braut Haaland.
Savinho, Kevin De Bruyne, Jeremy Doku, Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden and Grealish have bagged eight league goals combined this season.
Haaland has scored 14, highlighting the team’s heavy reliance on the Norwegian striker for their goalscoring output.
Red-hot form
Marmoush has been phenomenal in the Bundesliga this term.
Bayern Munich superstar Harry Kane has scored 14 goals, one more than Marmoush.
However, the Egyptian star has added seven assists, making him the joint-most prolific forward in Germany’s elite division.
In addition to his scintillating league exploits, he has racked up four goals and two assists from six Europa League outings.
Bringing Marmoush’s DFB-Pokal haul into the equation, he has tallied 18 goals and 12 assists across all competitions, outperforming the aforementioned Man City sextet in goal contributions.
Write Frankfurt a cheque
Frankfurt turned down Nottingham Forest’s £28 million bid last summer for Marmoush, whose valuation has since soared to £50m.
While many clubs would find that price prohibitive, it’s a drop in the ocean for Man City.
Haaland desperately needs assistance in the final third, so now’s not the time to hesitate to make impactful signings.
Marmoush would most certainly be one.
