Manchester United are reportedly considering a move for Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens.
The Red Devils are exploring options to sign a new shot-stopper to replace Altay Bayindir, who is keen on leaving the club to get more game time.
Bayindir, who joined United from Fenerbahce, has been playing a supporting role to Andre Onana. The Turkish goalkeeper has made just four starts across all competitions since moving to Old Trafford.
Onana’s form is another reason the club want to strengthen the goalkeeping department.
While the Cameroonian can be reliable, he has also been prone to errors. He has made two mistakes that led to goals in the Premier League this season.
As United look to stabilise their goalkeeping options, Lammens could provide both competition and depth in a crucial area of the pitch.
The Belgian was Jean Butez’s understudy for most of last season at Antwerp but stepped up when the number one suffered an injury during the Jupiler Pro League play-offs.
Lammens has emerged as one of the standout goalkeepers in the division this season.
Despite conceding 21 goals in 20 matches, he has demonstrated exceptional shot-stopping ability. His 80% save percentage is the second-highest in the division.
He averages 4.4 saves per game, the third-best in the league, and has prevented 5.6 goals, ranking fifth in this category.
His penalty-saving prowess is another key asset – he has stopped two of the three spot-kicks he has faced.
Lammens’ ability to play with a high defensive line further enhances his appeal. He has acted as a sweeper on seven occasions, showcasing his confidence in coming off his line to support his defence.
The Belgian is also comfortable with the ball at his feet, achieving a 73.8% passing accuracy. However, his long passing needs improvement.
Lammens’ willingness to claim crosses makes him a valuable asset. He has made 32 successful catches of opponents’ crosses.
He has made one error which led to a goal, but his skill set and potential make him a strong candidate to challenge Onana for the starting goalkeeper position at Old Trafford.
