Barcelona youngster Lamine Yamal is set to sign a new deal with the club, according to Spanish media outlet El Chiringuito.
The 17-year-old has risen to stardom over the last year thanks to his heroics with Barcelona and Spain.
He played an integral role in his nation’s 2024 European Championship success this summer, where he was voted the best young player of the tournament.
Yamal recently picked up the 2024 Kopa Trophy, cementing his meteoric rise through Barcelona’s youth academy.
His exceptional technical ability, vision and maturity beyond his years have caught the eye of many people around the footballing world.
Having already racked up six goals and eight assists in 16 games across all competitions this term, the winger is showing no signs of slowing down, and it is no surprise his current employers are keen to tie him down to a new contract.
Yamal has reportedly agreed to extend his Barcelona stay for a further six years, although no formal announcement is expected until his 18th birthday on July 13, 2025.
Alongside a proposed mammoth release clause of €1 billion, the new contract is expected to significantly increase Yamal’s salary to highlight his status as one of the best players in world football at the moment.
His commitment to Barcelona is a significant boost for the club’s ambitions. With a talented young core, Barcelona are well-positioned to challenge for domestic and European honours in the years to come.
Yamal may miss Barcelona’s trip to Celta Vigo this weekend due to an injury. Hansi Flick’s side are looking to continue their quest for La Liga glory off the back of a shock defeat against Real Sociedad.
However, Yamal could be back for his side’s Champions League clash against Ligue 1 outfit Brest on Tuesday evening.
