National press praises West Ham United goalkeeper’s performance

West Ham United and Bournemouth played out a 1-1 draw in a dramatic Premier League fixture on Monday night.

The Hammers came into the away game on the back of an excellent 2-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers but failed to build on that result.

West Ham thought they had scored the winner when Lucas Paqueta blasted home a penalty in the 87th minute after Tyler Adams handled Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s cross.

However, the Hammers failed to hold on, as Enes Unal popped up with a stunning free-kick goal three minutes later.

Julen Lopetegui’s side will be disappointed they couldn’t win after Paqueta’s late goal, but a point against an in-form Bournemouth team is certainly not a bad result.

West Ham had many encouraging performances, but the national press was most impressed with goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski.

The Daily Mirror handed him the highest 8/10 rating, saying he ‘made a series of excellent saves’ for his team.

The 39-year-old pulled off a brilliant save to deny Dango Ouattara at the stroke of half-time. He then denied efforts from Ryan Christie and Evanilson early in the second half.

The experienced goalkeeper has been excellent with his performances between the sticks this season. In eight top-flight starts, he has kept two clean sheets and made 32 saves.
