‘World-class’ star could now leave Man United in January after Amorim snub

Manchester United returned to winning ways in the Premier League with a dramatic 2-1 triumph over Manchester City on Sunday.

The Red Devils looked on course for a derby defeat at the Etihad Stadium but made a terrific turnaround with two late goals in just 115 seconds.

Manager Ruben Amorim used all five substitutes at his disposal, but there was no place for midfielder Christian Eriksen once more.

The Denmark international had a good start to the season, registering four goals and three assists from 13 appearances before Amorim’s arrival.

The 32-year-old started the Portuguese’s first game against Ipswich Town, but he was largely disappointing before his substitution.

Eriksen has since been an unused substitute on five occasions and was left out of the matchday squad for the 4-0 home win against Everton.

There has been much talk over Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho after Amorim’s decision to axe them from the squad for the Manchester derby.

However, Eriksen’s future is another big talking point. With his contract expiring in June 2025, it would be no surprise if he departs in January.

Eriksen, who has been described as ‘world-class‘ by Brentford manager Thomas Frank, was a top target for former club Ajax over the summer.

The Eredivisie giants could make a move in January if Eriksen gives the green light for a transfer.

A reunion with Brentford could be another tempting solution for the experienced ace.

United could sanction his sale for a nominal fee. They may need to hand him a payout to accept a reduction on his £150,000 per week wages.
