Arsenal must sign ‘world-class’ striker in January

Arsenal are six points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool, who have a game in hand.

The Gunners are playing catch-up after just 15 matches They need a huge turnaround in order to have any chance of winning the league title.

Meanwhile, the London giants have fared well in the Carabao Cup and Champions League, but the big question is whether they can end their trophy drought.

The club have not won any major silverware since the 2019/20 FA Cup. The board must show ambition with a mid-season swoop for a new striker.

Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak has been identified as the number one forward target for next summer, but the Gunners need to speed up their transfer plans for him.

Isak would be a good upgrade on Kai Havertz up front. The German has scored ten goals in 22 games this term, but he does not possess the added Isak’s mobility.

The Swede has been in fantastic form since his return from a broken toe in October. He has netted six goals and provided two assists in his last eight appearances.

He has also fared brilliantly with his link-up play from deep-lying positions. He was exceptional against Liverpool this month, delivering five key passes at St James’ Park.

The Magpies are currently in a strong position to keep Isak, who has three-and-a-half years left in his deal.

Despite this, Arsenal should test their resolve at the turn of the year. The Magpies are 12th in the standings and face a tough task to qualify for the Champions League.

Newcastle may have to sanction another big-money exit to balance their books, and the Gunners should make an ambitious offer for Isak in January.

Isak, who has been described as ‘world-class‘ by manager Eddie Howe, could cost over £100 million due to his lengthy contract, but this is not beyond the Gunners’ reach.

Arsenal made a massive statement by signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund in the winter of 2018. The club must make a similar move.
