Premier League referee David Coote has been fired by the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) following a series of damaging controversies.
The 42-year-old’s dismissal comes after a video surfaced showing him making derogatory comments about former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp.
In a statement, the PGMOL confirmed the termination, saying: “Following the conclusion of a thorough investigation into David Coote’s conduct, his employment with PGMOL has been terminated today with immediate effect.
“David’s actions were found to be in serious breach of the provisions of his employment contract, with his position deemed untenable.
“Supporting David continues to be important to us, and we remain committed to his welfare. David has a right to appeal the decision to terminate his employment.”
The scandal deepened further when another video emerged, allegedly showing Coote snorting a white powder.
While the authenticity of the film remains unverified, it has cast a dark shadow over his career.
The series of controversies has led to Coote’s suspension from refereeing in UEFA competitions.
His most recent Premier League match was Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Aston Villa on November 9.
