Journalist Christian Falk has revealed Bayern Munich’s desperate attempt to keep Alphonso Davies amid interest from Manchester United.
Bayern are putting pressure on the Canadian star to sign a new deal before Christmas ahead of United and Real Madrid’s proposed talks with his agent in January.
Davies’ agent, Nick Househ, is not ready to bow to the Bavarians’ pressure, and he is considering prolonging the negotiations into next year.
Househ is unhappy with the way Bayern have conducted the contract negotiations, and he is ready to speak with United.
Davies has been a mainstay in Bayern’s defence and has played a key role in the club’s success over the years.
The 24-year-old has won five Bundesliga trophies and one UEFA Champions League since moving to the Allianz Arena.
He has also demonstrated his versatility for Bayern. He has played as a left-back, left-wing-back and left-winger. He has also had a stint at right-wing and centre-back.
It is not surprising to see the Bavarians’ desperate attempt to keep his services beyond next summer when his contract expires.
United should not give up on Davies’ pursuit
Bayern are trying their best to keep Davies, but the Red Devils should not give up on their pursuit of the Canada international.
One of the glaring weaknesses in United’s squad is the left wing-back position, and manager Ruben Amorim has asked to reinforce the position with a ‘proper‘ signing.
Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are unreliable due to their injury woes, and Diogo Dalot is not comfortable there.
Davies is an upgrade on the current options, and his signing would be a masterstroke.
It would also send a message that Old Trafford remains an attractive destination for world-class talents.
