‘That’s being kind’: Alan Shearer reacts as Newcastle United lose 4-2 to Brentford

Newcastle United have suffered a blow in their quest to finish in the top four of the Premier League this season.

Having played out a 3-3 draw with title-chasing Liverpool at St. James’ Park on Wednesday evening, Newcastle headed into today’s Premier League match at Brentford with confidence.

However, Newcastle slumped to a 4-2 defeat at the Gtech Community Stadium.

It was 2-2 at half-time, but Brentford scored twice in the second half to pick up all three points.

Former Newcastle forward Alan Shearer was following the match, and he was unimpressed by their performance.

Newcastle’s disappointing game in numbers

The defeat to Brentford left Newcastle 12th in the Premier League.

The Magpies are on 20 points after 15 rounds of matches and are seven points off the final Champions League qualification spot.

Newcastle conceded 11 shots, of which eight were on target, according to BBC Sport. By contrast, Eddie Howe’s team had only three shots on target from 16 attempts.

Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope was forced into making four saves. The Magpies had 55.6 percent of the possession and 40 touches in the Brentford penalty box.

Howe’s side will return to action next weekend when they take on Leicester City at St James’ Park in the Premier League. They have to win that game.
