Newcastle midfielder was fit to face West Ham, injury fears unfounded

Newcastle United midfielder Lewis Miley was fit for the Premier League game against West Ham United on Monday and had not picked up an injury, according to the Daily Mail journalist Craig Hope.

Magpies manager Eddie Howe opted to select an extra forward in the matchday squad ahead of the England youth international midfielder against the Hammers, with Callum Wilson named on the bench following his long-term injury.

Miley is fit and has not sustained a fresh knock as some people thought, and he is in contention to return to the Newcastle squad for the Crystal Palace game on Saturday.

Brazil international midfielder Bruno Guimaraes is doubtful for the trip to Selhurst Park due to a glute complaint, and the 18-year-old is likely to take his place.

Miley returned to full fitness last month after spending seven months out of action due to back and foot injuries.

Newcastle have also been handed an injury boost as Joe Willock is fit after avoiding injury during the West Ham game.

Howe revealed after the game that the midfielder had been forced off at half-time against the Hammers due to a knock on his leg.

Willock trained this week and will be part of the squad for the Palace match as he and his teammates look to bounce back immediately from the humbling defeat on Monday night.

They are 10th in the Premier League table following four defeats, three draws and five victories in 12 games.

Newcastle have yet to win more than two league games in a row this term and need to aim for all three points against the Eagles.
