Manchester United are 12th in the Premier League with 16 points following an underwhelming start to the season.
They lacked a cutting edge with their finishing, and none of their strikers managed to score consistently in any competition.
Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have netted only three goals between them. The latter has not scored since his goal on debut against Fulham in August.
Zirkzee was a second-half substitute in the 1-1 league draw against Ipswich Town last weekend. His performance received slight criticism from manager Ruben Amorim.
Amorim said that the Dutchman’s decision-making remains a concern, and he was unimpressed with his inability to get into the box to capitalise on crosses.
Corriere dello Sport now claim the striker could head for the exit door soon. Juventus are in the front row to sign Zirkzee and contact has been established with him.
Bianconeri manager Thiago Motta knows the Dutchman very well after their time together at Bologna, and he is prepared to redesign his attack to bring the most out of Zirkzee.
United could wait until summer to make Zirkzee decision
Zirkzee had a decent 2023/24 season with Bologna, registering 12 goals and seven assists. He impressed with his hold-up play and movement in the final third.
However, he has struggled since his move to the Premier League. The Netherlands ace has failed to adapt to the extra intensity and has looked a shadow of himself.
The Bayern Munich graduate failed to make an instant impression on Amorim, but he still has plenty of time on his hands to change the United manager’s opinion.
United are unlikely to entertain offers for the £42 million-rated in January. They may ideally wait until the summer before taking the final verdict on Zirkzee from Amorim.
