Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has agreed with Ruben Amorim’s post-match verdict after the Ipswich Town game.
Amorim suggested Man United were not fluid due to their overthinking in their 1-1 draw on Sunday.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Maguire advised his teammates to ‘adapt’ naturally to Amorim’s philosophy rather than ‘forcing it’.
He said: “When you come from one style to another style, as the manager said in his interview after, I think people on the pitch are thinking too much about where they want to be.
“At the end of the day, it’s a football match. Go and be better than your opponent and go and win the football match. Within that, play with his principles.
“I think we overthought the game against Ipswich. I think that’s natural because the boys want to play the way the manager wants to play. I think we’ve got to let it adapt with fluent rather than forcing it.”
Man United scored an early goal via Marcus Rashford but struggled to create any other clear chances.
Andre Onana, Amad Diallo and Noussair Mazraoui were the only players who could hold their heads high after the game.
The Red Devils lacked rhythm, but that is expected as Amorim had just two training sessions with the entire squad.
Several United stars joined late as they were on international duty.
The new manager did not have much time to pass on his ideas to a few players, which was evident in the 1-1 draw.
He gave instructions to numerous players during the game, including Casemiro and Diogo Dalot.
Taking over in the middle of the season is never easy, and Amorim will need more time to impart his ideas on the squad.
