Inter Miami co-owner Jorge Mas has revealed he expects Lionel Messi to remain at the club beyond the end of his current deal in 2025.
Messi moved to Inter Miami from Paris Saint-Germain back in 2023, bringing an end to his illustrious adventure in European football.
The Argentine superstar led his side to Leagues Cup glory in his debut season at the club before winning the Supporters’ Shield last time out.
However, Messi still remains in search of MLS glory with his current employers after they were dumped out of the play-offs by Atlanta United earlier this month.
As it stands, the 37-year-old only has the upcoming 2025 season under the tutelage of Javier Mascherano to add an MLS title to his long list of trophies won, but Mas is confident of retaining his skipper for another year at least.
“Messi is under contract through 2025 – Leo and I will sit and discuss the future,” he said via ESPN.
“As I have said before, and I will repeat it now – I fully expect that in the opening of our new stadium in 2026 and the opening of our 2026 MLS season after a trophy-laden 2025 season, that Leo Messi will be our number ten.”
The arrival of Messi in Miami has since led to an influx of ex-Barcelona teammates, including Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba and Luis Suarez,
However, Alba and Suarez are currently facing uncertain futures at the Chase Stadium after their contracts expired at the end of last season.
However, Mas is confident that his side can retain their competitive edge.
“We are going to continue having the best team we can – there are no budget limitations,” the 61-year-old added.
“We are going to bring the best players we can from anywhere in the world, and we will continue winning and building this club to be a premier football team.”
