Manchester United have had an underwhelming start to the Premier League campaign, picking up 12 points from their opening ten games.
They have lacked a cutting edge in the final third with just nine goals. This could persuade the hierarchy to invest in another striker in January.
United are unlikely to make a huge outlay due to Profitability and Sustainability issues. The focus could be on a loan deal or a possible bargain transfer.
The club have a brilliant opportunity to prise Jonathan David away from Lille this winter.
According to Corriere dello Sport, Lille are prepared to part ways with the Canada international as he has no plans of renewing his contract, which expires in June.
David is ‘highly coveted’ and is already on the radar of United, Arsenal and Liverpool. The former are displeased with the efforts of Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee.
David would be a huge bargain signing for United
The Canada international has been a mainstay for the Ligue 1 giants since his arrival from Gent in 2020.
The 24-year-old had 35 goal contributions in 47 outings last term and he has continued his sparkling form with 15 goal involvements in 18 appearances this season.
Questions have been raised over his presence in the big games. He has answered his critics with four goals against Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Juventus in the Champions League.
This could be the reason behind the high-profile interest. United seem keen on securing a bargain deal and could have the upper hand over Juventus, who are long-term admirers.
The Bianconeri are hoping for a free transfer at the end of the campaign. The Red Devils can outwit them with a winter proposal, but the same goes for Arsenal and Liverpool.
United will first want to assess the form of Hojlund and Zirkzee under new manager Ruben Amorim.
If the duo continue to struggle in front of goal, they could seek a cost-effective solution in January. For the price mentioned, David would be a superb purchase at the start of 2025.
