Manchester United interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy has provided a fresh injury update ahead of the Premier League clash against Leicester City at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
The Red Devils returned to winning ways on Thursday night with a 2-0 triumph over PAOK in the Europa League. The performance was far from impressive, but they picked up their maiden win in the new league phase.
Van Nistelrooy has fared well on temporary charge with two wins and one draw. The Foxes game on Sunday will be his final assignment before Ruben Amorim takes control as the permanent boss.
Ahead of the game, the Dutchman has provided an update on multiple players.
He told reporters: “Yesterday we had a lot of benefit from Christian (Eriksen) playing thirty mins with (Manuel) Ugarte and Mason (Mount) making his first minutes again.”
He also confirmed that Luke Shaw and Leny Yoro are back in training, but Amad Diallo will need to be assessed after picking up a minor knock against PAOK.
When pressed on Kobbie Mainoo’s fitness, Van Nistelrooy highlighted that he is also progressing well with his muscle injury, but he needs more time before rejoining his teammates in regular training.
United are unbeaten since Erik ten Hag was dismissed. They have the opportunity to continue the good run against the Foxes at Old Trafford on Sunday.
The Red Devils comfortably beat them in the Carabao Cup fourth round by a 5-2 scoreline, but the Foxes made wholesale changes. The upcoming game won’t be straightforward.
United are the favourites to beat the Midlands outfit, but the visitors have the quality in their frontline to cause problems on the counter-attack.
The fans will be hoping that United can come on top with a victory before the international break.
