Van Nistelrooy must drop United star after poor performance

Manchester United registered their maiden win of the Europa League campaign with a 2-0 triumph over PAOK at Old Trafford last night.

The Red Devils drew their first three games in the competition and desperately needed a victory against the Greek outfit.

The performance was unconvincing in both halves, but they managed to prevail with maximum points from the clash.

Amad Diallo scored both goals in the second half, but there were several disappointing performances.

Manuel Ugarte was probably the worst performer on the night as he once again struggled to provide control in midfield.

The Uruguayan won just two out of eight duels contested. He lost possession on nine occasions and was dribbled past twice.

Ugarte managed just 44 touches with 29 successful passes. This was less than goalkeeper Andre Onana. He had 51 touches and 36 accurate passes.

The midfielder also received a yellow card for a needless push.

The 23-year-old was replaced by Christian Eriksen in the 65th minute, and he should be dropped to the bench on Sunday.

The former Sporting CP man has looked far from his best since his move to Old Trafford.

United face Leicester City at home in the Premier League on Sunday. The Red Devils are six points adrift of the top four and can’t afford to slip up any further.
