Roy Keane slams ‘lucky’ Manchester United star

Manchester United failed to return to winning ways in the Premier League against Chelsea on Sunday, sharing the points with a 1-1 draw.

Speaking after the stalemate, Roy Keane slammed the mentality of the United squad.

He told Sky Sports (via BBC Sport): “When the going gets tough, you roll your sleeves up. You become a team, and you win an ugly game, but this United team doesn’t do it.

“I am very critical of them, but I would love to turn up and watch them win 2-0.

“I wouldn’t want to be in the trenches with these players. These players – a lot of them don’t have the DNA of a Man Utd player in my eyes.”

Keane added that Lisandro Martinez was fortunate after avoiding a straight red card for his tackle on Cole Palmer during the dying seconds of the game.

He added: “Lisandro Martinez is a lucky boy. It’s a nasty tackle. I am always wary of criticising players for tackles as I did some bad stuff.”

Martinez had a relatively good outing with 73 touches and an 88 percent passing accuracy. He won three out of seven duels yesterday with three fouls committed.

However, his challenge on Palmer was rash. He probably got the benefit of the doubt as he reduced the weight of the impact on the midfielder’s knee.

The referee’s on-field decision also helped the central defender. Casemiro was sent off for a similar offence in the United shirt in the past.

United had the opportunity to close the gap to the top four to four points with a victory yesterday. They will be bitterly disappointed with the result.

The Red Devils created four big chances compared to Chelsea’s one. They seriously need to work on their finishing in training sessions.
