Man United star was back to his best against Fenerbahce

Manchester United played out a 1-1 draw against Fenerbahce in the Europa League last night.

The Red Devils have had a tough start to their European campaign, picking up just three points from their opening three games.

United got off to a good start last night, scoring a goal in the 15th minute, but they were unable to double their advantage before the half-time interval.

Fenerbahce equalised shortly after the break. United tried to score the winner, but goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic made several fine saves to deny them.

Despite the stalemate, there were positives to take forward. Andre Onana was the pick of the players with a sensational double save during the first half.

Christian Eriksen continued his brilliant form with a superb long-range strike to open the scoring.

However, Manuel Ugarte was the best player. The Uruguayan likes a physical challenge in midfield, and he was up for it against Fenerbahce.

The 23-year-old won five duels with an aerial success rate of 100 percent. He completed 88% of his passes and made 14 defensive actions, including a clearance off the line.

Dusan Tadic looked on course to equalise for United in the opening half, but Ugarte came to Onana’s rescue with a fantastic recovery run to deny him.

The £42 million-rated star has been in and out of manager Erik ten Hag’s team this season, but he proved yesterday that he can become a key player.

Ugarte showed glimpses of his best form from his time at Paris Saint-Germain and Sporting CP. He should retain his starting spot at West Ham United on Sunday.
