Arsenal boost as Newcastke striker could leave next year

Arsenal have been handed a transfer boost in their search for an out-and-out striker.

The Daily Mail claims Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak will seek a move if they do not qualify for the Champions League at the end of the season.

The Swedish international hitman is unwilling to sign a contract extension because he wants to play in the elite European competition.

Both parties are not in a rush to hold talks, given that his current deal does not expire until 2028.

It could be good news for Arsenal as they would likely be in a position to commit a British record fee on Isak next summer.

Gunners manager Mikel Arteta reportedly believes the Newcastle star is suited to Arsenal’s style of play, and a move could be on the cards at the end of the season.

The 25-year-old was the top attacking target for Arsenal during the summer transfer window

However, they were unwilling to get involved in a transfer saga after Newcastle announced they would not be considering any offers for Isak.

Their stand could change next summer if they miss out on a Champions League spot, and the news could put Arsenal on red alert.

Going after a number nine could be a top priority next summer, especially if they fail to win the Premier League title this term.

Kai Havertz has been in decent form this term, with four goals and an assist in eight Premier League games. However, Arsenal need a more prolific scorer.

Isak has scored 36 goals in 74 games for Newcastle, and it would require a big fee to be signed.
