Major blow for Arsenal as Calafiori suffers knee injury ahead of Liverpool clash

Arsenal have suffered a major injury blow ahead of the Premier League clash against Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

Riccardo Calafiori picked up a knee injury against Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League this evening and was replaced by Miles Lewis-Skelly in the 72nd minute.

Calafiori tried to carry on for a few minutes but eventually asked to be substituted.

He is now a huge doubt for the league game against Liverpool, which could be a crucial fixture in this season’s title race.

Arsenal are already four points behind the Reds in the table, and they can’t afford another slip-up.

Calafiori’s absence would be a massive blow for the Gunners, considering their issues at left-back.

Takehiro Tomiyasu is injured, while Jakub Kiwior has been in poor form.

Jurrien Timber could recover in time for the game, but the Dutchman may be required at centre-back.

With William Saliba suspended, Timber could be asked to partner Gabriel Magalhaes on Sunday.

The Gunners are also without Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard.

Gunners manager Mikel Arteta has a huge selection headache on his hands for the game.
