‘Would be fantastic’: Striker opens the door for Arsenal transfer, eight goals already this season

Sturm Graz striker Mika Biereth has opened the door for a reunion with Arsenal just months after leaving the club on a permanent basis.

The Dane joined the Gunners from Fulham in 2021, but he did not make a competitive appearance for the club.

Biereth had loan stints with RKC Waalwijk, Motherwell and Graz during this period, and the latter spent a club-record fee to sign him.

The 21-year-old has had a fine start on his return to Graz, scoring eight goals in 13 games.

He recently added another goal for Denmark Under-21s against Czechia, and speaking after the 5-0 win, he told TV2:

“Things are going well in Sturm Graz. I have nothing to complain about right now.

“I play every week at a good level, and now we also play in the Champions League, where I’m still waiting for my first goal.

“If I keep playing well and scoring goals, hopefully a change can come. But right now I’m focused on Sturm, on doing well and scoring goals.

“A return back to Arsenal would be fantastic, but it’s not something I’m focusing on right now.”

Arsenal unlikely to consider Biereth reunion

Biereth had a good 2023/24 season on loan with 15 goals and nine assists. Half of those goal contributions came for Graz after his January move.

The Dane played a key role in the club’s surprise Bundesliga triumph, which was enough to convince them to spend £4 million on him this summer.

He has continued his bright form for them, but it is unlikely that Arsenal will consider a reunion until he proves himself in one of Europe’s top-five leagues.

Biereth has caught the eye with his scoring record, but the big question is whether he can have a similar impact against superior opponents in Europe.

However, Arsenal are unlikely to return for him as he does not fit into the club’s playing style.

Biereth averages five passes per game at Graz with an accuracy of only 63 percent.

Gunners manager Mikel Arteta prefers a modern striker who can distribute, hold up play, create chances and score goals.

This is probably a big reason why Arsenal were more than happy to offload Biereth. He still has to prove himself at the top level to attract high-profile bids.
