Havertz was Arsenal’s best player vs PSG, Arteta says he was ‘so powerful’ & ‘intelligent’

Arsenal picked up their first win of the Champions League campaign with a 2-0 triumph over Paris Saint-Germain at the Emirates Stadium last night.

Kai Havertz opened the scoring with a brilliant header from a Leandro Trossard cross before Bukayo Saka doubled the club’s lead in the 35th minute.

The Gunners lacked the same kind of intensity after the interval, but they preserved their 2-0 advantage for the remainder of the encounter.

Havertz was undoubtedly the standout performer, and he was handed the man of the match.

The German caught the eye with his strong hold-up and link-up play aside from his early goal.

He won ten ground and aerial duels and made seven defensive actions. Havertz won two tackles and made one interception and four recoveries.

It was a top-class performance from the 25-year-old, sparking manager Mikel Arteta to say that he was ‘so powerful’ and ‘intelligent’ after the game.

Havertz has scored five goals in just nine games this season and will be aiming to continue the good form against Southampton in the league on Saturday.

Arsenal registered a stunning 37 shots with 17 on target versus the Foxes. They will fancy their chances of a good win against the Saints at home.

The Gunners are third in the league standings with 14 points on the board. They are just one point behind Liverpool, who are the current leaders.

They have jumped to the eighth spot in the Champions League with four points but will drop down with nine games to be played tonight.
